Lilly's Story
Have you ever wondered where your donations go? Sweet Lily goes in for leg surgery on the 19th of July, please cross your paws her operation is successful!

This is sweet Lily. Lily is 1 1/2 years old, before arriving into rescue she had already birthed a litter of puppies, and was pregnant again. Doc was able to adopt the litter and spay her. Lily only weighed 26 pounds because the first litter had taken everything she needed for her own growth, plus she passed on her genetic. bone defect to her pups. Lily is a happy bouncy little girl, the kind you just want to pick up and protect. Dr. Brown took X-Rays of her leg, he and Dr Howard discussed possible options for her.

The first drawing is a normal front leg. The second drawing is what Lily's leg looks like. Doc can normally lengthen a bone, by cutting the bone, and pinning the bone to a fixator while new bone fills in the space between the bones. But Lily's Radius has grow past her elbow and is bent. Any side blow to her leg would wipe out her front leg. On the 19th of July they are going to try some inventive surgery. They give me lots of maybe's about success, but I told them about the great group of basset lover who would have their paws crossed for Lily. So please join me in wishing Lily great success.

Without you, and your wonderful donations to Basset Rescue, we could not even try for this type of surgery for all the Lily's that come into WABR. Thank you.

Lilly Update

Thank to all of you that crossed your paws for Lily, I know you made a huge difference. Thanks to those of you that helped with Lily's Vet bill, especially Eleanor Wright for her huge donation!!!!

Both Docs commented on Lily's sweetness.

Lily came home Monday, and is getting around just fine.  No keeping a good gal down.  Normally, they put a cast on after this type of surgery.  But with basset's short fat leg's, cast rub their chest and the top of their paws raw.  So she will go in and be re-wrapped every two weeks or so.  Lily thanks everyone who kept her in your thoughts.

UPDATE!!!!
--------------------------------------

Lily's leg is doing wonderful. Doc rewrapped her leg on the 6th of Aug. Doc Brown and Doc Howard were very pleased with her with her range of motion (much better than they figured it would be at this stage of her healing), plus they were extremely pleased with how straight her leg is looking.  Lily was using her back leg to dig at her wrapped leg, so doc wrapped her back foot so she didn't have nails to sure on.  We all had a wonderful laugh. Lily looked like a bucking bronco trying to kick the wrap off her back leg.  She is one little character.
