In memory of
Buddy  the Basset Hound

Heather drove all the way up from Boise Idaho for Buddy previously named Homer. Heather's family has a 8 month old female basset Daphne, who now has a great play buddy. When Buddy, came into rescue his little nose was totally torn up by another dog. Once I figured out the right stuff to use on his nose, he healed up quickly. You would think that he would be fearful of other dogs, but he loves every animal and people. This little guy is a real survivor. When Heather called about him, I sent her pictures which were ones with his nose looking raw. She fell in love. This little fellow is one lucky boy.

This is painful for me to write, but Buddy (AKA Homer) passed away this summer. He suffered from severe seizures that grew worse over the last few months of his life. We tried almost everything you could imagine (he hated taking his meds every day) but by the end he became so weak he could barely move, barely sleep, because of the violence of the seizures.

Daphne and I miss him a great deal. I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to be a part of his life, even though it was entirely too short. Daphne and I both miss him a great deal. He was the most personable hound I have ever known and was always in search of one of two things – food and a warm, comfortable place to sleep. There were times when I’d look all over the house for him and finally find him snuggled under the covers of my bed or curled up in the basket of clean clothes I had just pulled out of the dryer. When I found him like that, he would always give me a look like “What, you got a problem with this?” I never did. He always greeted me at the door when I got home and was right there licking my face when I woke up in the morning. He loved going for rides, no matter where we were going and loved exploring the mountains with me. He also loved just sitting in my lap watching TV or barking at the lawn mower. He just loved life.

He always made me laugh. He died only two weeks after my father was killed in an ATV accident. Dad and Buddy had a great relationship. I’d like to think that Dad was waiting there when Buddy passed on. They’re playing together now or just curled up watching a game together.
